What Is an MT4 Trading Bot?
An MT4 trading bot is an automated program that runs inside MetaTrader 4 and executes your strategy for you. On MT4 it takes the form of an Expert Advisor written in MQL4. Once attached to a chart, it watches the market, applies your rules and manages orders automatically, without you needing to be present.
MetaTrader 4 has been the retail trading standard for well over a decade. Its MQL4 language is mature and thoroughly documented, brokers support it almost universally, and there is a huge ecosystem of tools around it. For forex and gold traders in particular, MT4 is often the default account.
At Zefinx, an MT4 trading bot is coded from your own logic in native MQL4. It is not a resold template; it is automation built to reproduce your specific edge, with your risk rules baked in.
MT4 bot essentials
- An MQL4 Expert Advisor running inside MT4
- Trades your rules automatically, 24/5
- Runs on the platform most brokers support
- Coded from your strategy, not a template
Why MT4 Is Still Widely Used for Bots
Despite MT5 being the newer platform, MetaTrader 4 still powers a very large share of live trading accounts. Its appeal is simplicity and stability: MQL4 is well understood, the platform is lightweight, and countless brokers offer it as their primary forex platform. Many traders simply already have an MT4 account and want their automation there.
For a lot of single-symbol forex and gold strategies, MT4 is perfectly capable. Scalping, trend, grid and news strategies all run well on it, and the mature MQL4 codebase means battle-tested, reliable automation.
Where a strategy genuinely needs multi-currency portfolio testing or MT5-specific order types, we will say so and recommend MT5 instead. Choosing the right platform for the strategy is part of the job, not an upsell.
MT4 strengths
- Huge broker support and account base
- Mature, stable, well-documented MQL4
- Great for single-symbol forex and gold
- Lightweight and simple to run on a VPS
What We Build as MT4 Trading Bots
We develop the full range of MT4 automation. Scalping bots trade small, fast moves and need tight spread control and low latency. Trend and swing bots hold longer for larger moves with volatility-based sizing. Grid and recovery bots work ranges but always with strict exposure caps and an equity stop.
We also build news-aware bots that schedule around the economic calendar, gold (XAUUSD) bots tuned for volatile spreads, trade-management utilities such as trailing-stop and break-even managers, and trade copiers that mirror trades between accounts. Existing MT4 bots can be repaired, optimised or migrated to MT5 when it makes sense.
Across all of them the priorities are constant: faithful strategy logic, realistic testing on real tick data and risk controls that cannot be switched off by accident.
MT4 bot types
- Scalping, trend, swing and breakout bots
- Grid and recovery with exposure caps
- News and gold (XAUUSD) bots
- Trade managers, copiers and utilities
How the Build Works
Every project begins with a written specification covering your entries, exits, indicators, timeframes, position sizing and the conditions under which the bot should not trade. The clearer these rules, the more faithfully the MT4 trading bot reproduces your edge.
We then develop in native MQL4, backtest across multiple years of tick data with realistic variable spreads, and forward-test on a demo account against the live feed. We report worst-case drawdown honestly, because an MT4 trading bot is evidence-based automation, not a guaranteed income stream.
Delivery includes source code, documentation and a settings guide, plus help deploying on a VPS so the bot runs stably around the clock, independent of your home machine.
Build path
- Written strategy specification
- Native MQL4 development
- Backtest plus demo forward-test
- Source, docs and VPS deployment
